Xenoblade Chronicles is Monolith Soft's sweeping open-world JRPG set atop the petrified bodies of two long-dead colossi, the Bionis and the Mechonis, where a young man named Shulk takes up the future-seeing Monado blade to defend his home. Released for the Wii in 2010, it reinvented director Tetsuya Takahashi's 'Xeno' lineage (after Xenogears and Xenosaga) as a brand-new flagship series. It became a cult favourite whose long-delayed Western release was famously spurred on by the fan-led Operation Rainfall campaign.
